I had the privilege once again on Sunday to be invited to provide Sports Massage for runners completing the London Marathon. The runners were raising money for the charity Retina UK.
We packed up the car with my massage couch, aiming to arrive in London for 2.30pm, the time when the first of the Retina UK runners were expected to finish.
As last year, we were in the luxurious Taj Hotel on Buckingham Gate, a short walk from the Marathon finish line. We received a lovely welcome from Emily of Retina UK and her team. We were four therapists in total, treating 24 runners.
Retina UK had put on showers, sandwiches and massage for their runners in the hotel, and the first one came in at around 3pm, having made the short walk from the finish line. Throughout the afternoon and early evening we treated runners and soothed their aches and pains from such a monumental race. It was a real privilege to be able to treat each and every runner after this life-changing day in their lives.
Once again it was a pleasure to be at the cutting edge of a sports massage career, and the day was a great success.
Thanks to Emily and her team, and of course to all the runners!
